Nelson or the whole length of his name Nelson Marcelo San Martin Arriagada is an import football player from Chile that has already served Kedah for 2 glorious years. He has been one of the machines that has helped the state to win 3 cups namely the Super League, The FA League and the Malaysian League for 2 consecutive years.

Me and Nelson

He has been a good friend ever since Pak Long introduced me to him. Some Kedah fans may just say that I’ve been good to him for something and all, but I couldn’t just care less. I’m not a football junkie for the record.

Fans photographing Nelson

So I was there at the Sultan Abdul Halim Airport as he left for Kuala Lumpur on a 2120 flight. As I was arriving, Nelson was attending to his fans. I could practically see their gloomy faces. Being close to him, I wasn’t any exception either. Even at the time of scribing this, my fingers are shivering, my eyes are watering and my heart is fast beating. I can’t really describe how close we are, that only my round of friends could tell.

Nelson leaving

I don’t know what else to scribe and I can’t go on scribing about this no more. He has indeed left a sweet spot in my life within the approximate 2 years of friendship.

Being that said, above all, I believe we just don’t know what we’ve got until we say goodbye …

“Goodbye’s the saddest word I’ll ever hear
Goodbye’s the last time I will hold you near
Someday you’ll say that word and I will cry
It’ll break my heart to hear you say goodbye”

Gracias Nelson. May we meet again … someday.

We went over to Kuala Lumpur recently. ‘We’ as in Shauqi, Pak Long and me … that is. I followed them for no specific reason actually. Pak Long wanted to find and install new body kit for his car. We kicked our journey early evening on the recent Thursday. Arrived in KL at about 2030. We straight ahead joined Iqbal and Imran at Pavillion, hence they wanted to do some singing at RedBox.

Busy

The morning after, we went to Sunway to find a body kit shop for the car. Thinking that we need to leave the car for a full day, Shauqi called Anna, a good friend of his, to come and fetch us from Sunway and drive us to The Curve in Damansara whilst waiting for the installation of the body kit. It’s Friday, and we’re on a far journey from home, so yes, we’re entitled for jamak.

Feel

We then made to have lunch at Marche, an Switzerland concept restaurant in The Curve. Previously, I had lunch there with Abu, Salim and Popeye before the final match of Piala Malaysia. Overall, we left the place with heavier stomachs. Iqbal and Imran arrived later from KL after they’ve finished with their day jobs.

Inside Marche

We went back to Sunway to claim the car at about 8pm after dealing with heavy traffic. It took us approximately 2 hours to arrive in Sunway from Damansara. A very tiring journey to be exact.

Double treble, or so they call it. The match was indeed a breathtaking one and the final football action assignment for this year, I believe. For most Kedahans, it end up in absolute glory. Kedah put Selangor in utter embarrassment after their previous lost in the FA Cup Final, also with Kedah. The result, 3-2.

If you have Quicktime installed, you can view a simple panorama of the stadium as I managed to squeeze some time to make it before the match started.

I’ve gotten extra hands this time – Kalai and Din agreed to help me out to cover the field action photographically for Kedah FA. They arrived quite early at the stadium as being asked, though I turned out late, hence been chasing around for my media pass from certain KFA personnel.

Group Photo

Not much to be told about my experience at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium recently. Only a near-concussion incident while shooting the game. The fans kept throwing bomb-like fireworks into the field, of which one of them nearly put me to concussion. Like seriously, I can practically feel the shockwave pressure hitting from the back. But Alhamdulillah, I managed to carry on shooting even after that occurrence.

Hope you liked it!

This is quite a late entry. However I’ve got still to do this for the sake of … being complete :) . Well .. last 2 Thursdays actually, on the 14th, after the football match with Terengganu in Alor Star, Pak Long made a suggestion to go to his fish rearing ground in Teluk Bayu, Sungai Petani. So .. we did just that.

Chilling

Pak Long, Popeye and Abu in Pak Long’s car while Salim, Al Hafiz and me in Salim’s car. When we arrived Sungai Petani, we waited for Bad (Badrul Bakhtiar) as he was wanting to join us to the ground.

Bully

Nothing much happened actually, accept for the normal routine; fishing, chats, jokes at night. Come morning, Pak Long, Midi and Apit fed the fish. A while after, a number of us, Pak Long, Abu, Apit and me swam by the side of the ground.

It was another successful night for Kedah. Though it was only the first leg for the semi-final, Kedah staged a very contesting game. The match started with Kedah kept knocking on Terengganu’s goal with uncountable tries. The attacks started off as soon as the referee blew the commencing minute. Oh, good news for Kedah – Fauzi Saari (Pak Long) was in action, yet again!

Taking Advantage

Unlike the previous home match with Perak, the match with Terengganu ended without much dispute. Presumably, the stadium was filled tight. So tight that you could see humans practically everywhere – in the corridors, up the roof, even by the drainage side. I’ve learned the number of tickets being issued for the match was 36,000. And I’ve learned that it was all sold!

First Goal

So, the match ended up with Kedah overwhelmed Terengganu by 3-0. It could be 4-0 with Nelson missing his penalty kick … but yeah, Kedah was quite happy with the number 3 :-) .

Second Goal
